Upon entering the west village meatpacking district a bright yellow gumball machine in the middle of the street stands alone. Go ahead, walk up to it. You don’t need a quarter.
[Complimentary” is an interactive installation by artist Leah Harper that distributes free compliments through an ordinary toy vending machine. All compliments come from members of the public and can be submitted either on-site or through the artist’s website. The person receiving the compliment can choose to keep it, pass it on, or recycle it.
The purpose of the project is to reinvent public space to be more engaging and playful. It does so by creating a platform for interaction and conversation among strangers and by offering a brief uplifting pause to one’s day. It was originally created for Art In Odd Places (AIOP) “FREE” 2014 festival, presenting visual and performance art in unexpected public spaces along 14th Street in Manhattan.
Complimentary” has garnered local and international media attention since its initial appearance with AiOP. Not only was it featured at Martha Stewart’s American Made Summit in November, but it will also be on display at the Hudson River Museum in February 2015. It will continue to dole out compliments in its current home at the Centre for Social Innovation NYC, with occasional appearances at events and other public spaces.]
This is just a thought, but maybe if unlimited alcohol and food were served like a “free gift with purchase” there would be more people shopping rather than loading up on freebies. The purpose for Fashion’s Night Out is to support the industry and give the economy a boost, wouldn’t you think the marketing departments of fashion brands would get more creative to tighten up on their targets?
The previous years of street mobs and crowds that FNO brought had me running out the store and on the train home as soon as I got my freeloader fix on. This year FNO grew up and got red carpet ready. Sorry, SoHo and 5th ave it’s bittersweet, but what’s a better place to be for FNO but one of the biggest stores in the world: Macy’s Herald Square, NYC.
You already know Macy’s get’s crowded on a regular day. Macy’s was not having any of that. Next year, make sure to get your tickets or your name on the list. Welcome A-listers and friends of A-Listers only. You just have to know someone, or know someone who knows someone.

We don’t mess with chics in Burberry patterns, fake Manolo boots straight from Steve Madden… & that’s okay because..
Fast forward 10-15 years and this new collaboration from Steve Madden and JaRule is something different, not blatantly knocked off or overdone in logos or signature patterns.
For years the only Madden that’s been my obsession was the video game, and people might say “oh, JaRule is washed,” but that’s not what fashion is about. Steve Madden owns Brian Atwood. Don’t sleep!
Hardware logos are always nice but what’s better is that you see a variety of hardware designs throughout the line not just one. What inspired us was the use of a gold vintage key in which JaRule says symbolizes, “the freedom to be creative.”
Going on trend with athletic leisure, this men’s sneaker line consists of a mix of genuine leather and suede with styles that look dressy enough to wear with a suit.
Good to see DJ Envy and Julissa Bermudez doing their thing. Nice work!
Check http://www.stevemadden.com, and http://www.Macys.com for the collection now.
Press play.
What’s officially hot in fashion is athletic-leisure and boho. In the case of luxury and targeting a larger clientele base, the sport of skateboarding brings in the younger affluent customer who can afford the Chanel backpack, Prada Linea Rossa shades and a presidential suite in the Pierre Hotel on 5th Ave.
Carlo inspires because of his humble nature, love for the sport and community involvement with the Harold Hunter Foundation. His chiseled features and charming smile make him an awesome spokesmodel, businessman, and maybe your #MCM. We were blessed to come across and become friends with such a wonderful talent. In addition to our editorial feature, search Carlo Carezzano on YouTube, and follow @carezzano on Instagram to check out his skills. Congrats on the 1st place win at the Adidas Skate Copa, well deserved.
Welcome Ranbeeri, a new premium denim brand based in NYC. Move over True Religion there’s a new girl in town and soon to also have a collection for men’s this season. The brand aesthetic displays unorthodox dyes and finishes, with a distressed, rock and roll inspired, John Varvatos-esque look. The company own’s the factory so you know they have complete control for executing top quality.
Brand Ambassadors, Aliana Lohan and Po Johnson lead a successful, super packed rooftop party. The luxurious venue, James Hotel at the Jimmy Rooftop had open bar and new school hip hop that got even the grey haired, big wig investors turning up to “fk up some comma’s” and Rich Gang. LOL. It was great to see the stunning LaLa Anthony also, as we need to stay tuned for her upcoming apparel line.
Thankyou to all at Ranbeeri for the special press invite and making me feel like family. TMZ was tight they couldn’t get in. Cheers!
Big up’s to the well respected, distinguished straight men who are confident enough in their manhood to wear pink, sing karaoke, appreciate Broadway’s Jersey Boys, and take their spouses last name.
In this 21st century generation of well educated women entrepreneurs, many are overachievers in their careers. (side note: Piaget has a marketing campaign to highlight them.) The women in creative fields, especially as artists where their name identifies with their personal brand; the option to maintain that integrity by keeping it as their own and as family name should be sure to catch on soon. People are always quick to forget it’s the woman’s name that goes before the man’s on wedding accoutrements so why would using the woman’s last name be such a big deal?
Where hyphenation is common, watch the video of Zoe’s Jimmy Kimmel interview. She claims they’re actually hyphenated and share eachother’s names on paper. [Zoe Saldana-Perego, Marco Perego-Saldana]
In this generation of less marriages and more divorce, could the option to use the woman’s surname encourage the acceptance of women’s engagement proposals; could it be a new age concept that may instill traditional morals back into society?
It’s commendable that Italian artist Marco Perego would even think of the idea. Enter, the white picket fence of the Saldanas: Zoe, Marco, twin boys Cy and Bowie. Finally, A-listers taking their celebrity to another level and displaying a revolutionary, genuine positive purpose. Go, Zoe and Marco! True inspirations and role models.
[Zoe quoted, I tried to talk him out of it. I told him, ‘If you use my name, you’re going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world.’ But Marco looks up at me and says, ‘Ah, Zoe, I don’t give a s–t.’]
It’s fresh, interesting and new. Let’s hashtag this #relationshipgoals.
It won’t be open until the end of the year but this gives you enough time to book your flights. The Ritz Carlton Paris has collaborated with Chanel to create “Chanel au Ritz Paris.” The entire hotel will have a grand reopening to include a luxurious full service spa focused on Chanel’s skincare products. In English, “Chanel at the Ritz.”
Coco Chanel personalized her own suite, #302 where she called home for 37 years.
It has been over two years since the hotel has been under renovation. In 2012 when they transferred valuables and furniture to storage, only then did they discover a 400 year old masterpiece painting called The Sacrifice of Polyxena by Charles Le Brun. He was known as the greatest French artist of all time during the 17th century. It’s worth over 500,000 euro where it was temporarily displayed in New York and auctioned at Christie’s in Paris. It remains a mystery to how it even got into her suite and questions the notion of Coco being a Nazi. How amazing would it be to see it displayed in the new spa to give you even more life along with a massage.
You can stay in Coco’s suite for 10,000 euro a night, but that may be the before renovation price.
